Lectures, Self-Made Totes and Bowling: Two-Days Seminar for Teenage Muslim Girls in Kyiv

On Saturday and Sunday, 23-24 December 2017, multiple girls’ voices hummed at Kyiv Islamic Cultural Centre, as Women’s Social Organisation “Maryam” gathered teenage girls (13 to 16) from all over Ukraine at a two-day seminar. The lectures covered such serious issues as choosing friends (who can be of any religious background as long as they support you and help you become better instead of triggering degradation and transition “to the dark side”) and future profession (in particular, the girls were offered a review of jobs in IT).

Still, it wasn’t all about listening to lectures: each of the girls decorated an eco-friendly reusable tote bag (which helps one save over 1000 disposable plastic bags that are bad for the environment) with her own drawing. Now every participant has her own unique tote, ahile the drawing, due to special materials and techniques, is supposed to survive washing without becoming faded or blurred.
