Women’s Social Organisation “Maryam” was created in 2005 for fulfilling Ukrainian Muslimahs’ need for some educational initiatives for women, for some joint cultural events, charitable projects, etc, where everyone could participate. “Maryam”’s fruitful work was honoured with a special award in late 2014 in the terms of World Conference “Women’s Role In Charitable Work” affiliated to the Government of Kuwait.
Organisation “Maryam” holds religious, educational and cultural lectures and seminars for Ukrainian women; helps women increase their knowledge and skills in both the religious (Qur’an memorizing circle “Firdows”, daily lessons on fiqh, lectures, seminars, summer camps) and worldly matters (tailoring classes, hairdresser and computer classes).
Besides, a lot of attention is paid to health-related issues: themed events on physical and mental health several times per year; regular fitness, commodities for hairdresser’s salon, cosmetologist and massage cabinet.
Besides, “Maryam” activist hold an annual International women’s conference every spring, where women of different religious views discuss modent problems and challenges, and try to find some ways of solving them.
Speaking of the key to the organisation’s success, it’s former Head Ms. Suzana Islyamova stressed the importance of involving as many active women as possible: “Someone leaves for maternity, someone moved to another region with their family, someone starts a new project at work and has less free time, etc. — and all that leaves the organisation helpless and every loss is hard to make up if the new people don’t keep coming all the time and don’t share the current duties with the existing members.”
