Zaporizhzhya Islamic Cultural Centre “Vira” (“Faith”) received two thank-you letters at once, and both are from facilitators of the charity projects where the city’s Muslims participated.

“Do Good, Ukraine!”

On July 2 volunteers from the local ICC joined the charitable event of distributing food among the World War II veterans. THe project was coordinated by a volunteering organisation “Do Good, Ukraine!”

“I’d like to express my admiration and infinite gratitude towards the young men from Islamic Cultural Centre “Faith”. My name is Karina, and I am a volunteer and ecology projects coordinator at a volunteering organisation “Do Good, Ukraine!” We’ve received a proposal recently to distribute food (already purchased by sponsors) among the World War II veterans living in Zaporizhzhya and the region.

We had 355 packs of food, 15kg each. The problem was in finding enough volunteers. I called Mr.Muhammad Mamutov, Head of the local ICC, described the situation and asked if they could help. On the very next day I found 8 young men waiting for me. They loaded their cars several times and arranged who goes where so quickly, that all I had time to do is to smile and thank them.

It was a very pleasant cooperation! Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart — both on my own behalf and on behalf of volunteering organisation “Do Good, Ukraine!”

“This Riverbank Hasn’t Been So Clean For A Very, Very Long Time!”

“In spring 2014 our volunteering organisation “Ecol” was planning a voluntary saturday cleanup in Zaporizhzhya, within the framework of the all-Ukrainian initiative “Let’s Make Ukraine Clean!” Our task was to find the most polluted areas in our city, find volunteers and find sponsors who could provide them with litter bags and gloves for collecting the garbage.

It didn’t take long to find poluted areas, neither did it take a lot of time to find sponsors (having regard to our experience of the previous year). But finding volunteers for cleaning the 12 areas was a problem.

And at the time we exhausted all our sources of searching volunteers, we received a phone call from Zaporizhzhya Islamic Cultural Centre offering help! Earlier we didn’t even know we had one, but we are so glad we do have one!

Guys volunteered to make the full cleanup at one of the 12 areas, and cleaned the bank Mokraya Moskovka river. This riverbank hasn’t been so clean for a very, very long time! It was really cool! Thank you!”
