In Kiev Took Place Scholarly Meeting on "Modern Islamic Ideologies"

In November, 5^th, in Kiev Islamic Social Cultural Center took place scholarly colloquium on modern Islamic ideologies. This event was organized by "Alraid" together with "The Ukrainian Center of Islamic Studies".

The meeting passed with participation of leading experts in the area of Islamic studies and oriental studies among whom were N.Kiryushko, the head of the Ukrainian Center of Islamic Studies; Yu. Kochubey, the editor-in-chief of magazine "Shidniy svit"; A.Bulatov, the vice-president of the Committee on Affairs of Religions of the AR of Crimea; V.Lyubchik, the chief of the department of scientifically-expert work of the State Committee of Ukraine on Affairs of Religions and others. In the event also participated teachers, post-graduate students and students of Ukrainian universities.

The colloquium program included the report of Master of Shariah Studies Seyran Arifov, the principal of the School of Hafith in Simferopol.

In his speech S. Arifov revealed causes of appearance of different sects in Islam.

"Islam as religion is invariable. But the estrangement of Muslims from their religion is the main reason of occurrence of various movements. Origin of trends and sects in Islam took place throughout all its history, first of all it has been caused by sociopolitical conditions of this or that time and cultural background… Why there are reformist movements in Islam? Frequently it is the initiative of groups of people who unite around a definite purpose. As a rule, it is a question of Islam revival, following the Quran and Sunnah. Another thing is that the founders of this or that movement have various imagination concerning how to do it, and what pure Islam is", was emphasized by the lecturer. In his report Seyran Arifov told about the basic Islamic sects of our time, having noted their strong and weak points, basic errors, contradictions and conformity of work to the Quran and Sunna postulates.

The end of the speech was followed by active discussion of the topic and defining of topics of the future meetings.
